 3973rd Combat Defense Squadron (CDS) Moron Air Base, Spain
Moron AB was assigned to 16th AF and 16th AF was made up of 6 SAC Reflex bases during the time period of 1951 thru April 15, 1966 at which time all of the 16th AF bases were turned over to USAFE . Three bases in Spain: Moron , Zaragoza and Torrejon . Three bases in Morocco: Ben_Guerir , Nouasseur and Sidi Slimane . In addition to the main Air Bases, numerous AC & W sites, communication sites, POL pipeline and Alert Fighter cover were also maintained as part of the 16th AF. SAC was the hosting command and 16th AF was unusual in its make up because it never owned its own bomber and fighter aircraft. The aircraft assigned were always from another ZI or Europe base and other numbered AF. Every 90 days new bombers, crews and support personnel arrived at the Reflex base. This site is dedicated to all the Officers, NCO�s and Airman assigned as Air Policeman/Combat Defense stationed at any of the 16th AF bases from 1951 thru April 15, 1966. All SAC Air Policeman from 1958 thru the fall of 1966 were designated as Combat Defense Force personnel. This web site documents the history and contributions during the Cold War by the Strategic Air Command, 16th AF and its bases. Historical landmarks include: the Berlin Crisis , Cuban Crisis , Vietnam War , JFK Assassination and a B-52 KC-135 accident occurring over Spain. We make no claims on the completeness of the site. Moron�s most famous assigned Officer was LTC Chuck Yeager then commander of Moron�s first rotating Fighter Sq in 1958, the 1st Fighter Day Sq, Flying F-100's Super Sabers from George AFB, CA. LTC Yeager is now BG YEAGER (Ret.)









These 12 Combat Defense Patches represent the CDF SQ that supported the Reflex Bases of the 16th AF. It is not a complete accounting of all the Reflex Air Policemen/Combat Defense Forces that served and should you have a base that is not shown, please contact the web master and we will try to apply it to this History of Reflex in SAC.
